Designing for the 960

####Introduction
Finally the transition is becoming more main stream and monitors are getting bigger. It is not uncommon to see a 19 or 22 inch monitor on a new computer now and even the Government monitors are starting to upgrade. So where does this leave the web designer?

Traditionally web designers have been designing for 800×600 resolutions as this was the mainstream at the time and mainly fueled by people who hadn’t upgraded their computers. However due to the availability of cheaper widescreen monitors we can now start to safely target resolutions of 1024px wide. In fact, web statistics now support the move to this wider screen format and that goes for Government computers too.

Obviously 1024px widths allows for more expression of creative freedom and gives rise to a landscape design, if the design calls for it. Alternatively you could still design the content in a narrower format and use the additional space for a more elaborate background design, confident that most monitors will be able to display your creativity.

####Snap Those Guides!
For web development purposes however it is advisable to ensure that the guides on the PSD file are snapped to 5 pixel increments so that images can be cleanly sliced and converted to a working website.

No one likes to work with odd pixel widths!

####Grid PSD File
When designing, we like to start with a clean grid overlayed PSD and we thought you might like to use it too.
