Hambo Development and IE6 Support

Internet Explorer 6 has been around for about eight years and most professional web developers have sought to include it in their cross browser compatibility, however it is time now to put it to rest and move forward.

The web has moved forward with regards to advanced CSS, better graphical detail including transparency and stricter adherence to Web Standards. Unfortunately IE6 doesn’t rate very highly in support for these things and as such hold back the web and the web developer in lost time and workarounds.

IE6 will no longer be fully supported as part of our cross browser compatibility, however IE7, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and soon to be released IE8 will be included.

What this means is we will no longer guarantee that people using IE6 will get an identical site to those using modern web browsers unless the client is prepared to invest in the time to make it as good as the others.

Don’t panic they won’t get a mess either!

Obviously there will be mixed reactions from clients, some may be quite confused as to why anyone would still consider supporting an eight year old browser anyway, others who still haven’t upgraded will feel they are being forced into the new modern world of tech.

The only exceptions will be for clients who have specified that IE6 be identical to other browser experiences.
