Importance of Tableless Layouts
A COMMON QUESTION
A common question when speaking to web designers is "Do you use tableless layout?". Tableless layout is a cleaner and more modern way of coding a client site but it's part of a coding principle called Web Standards.
I thought I would give you a heads up on this new approach and why it is a good thing for you and your client's sites.
WEB STANDARDS
Web Standards are the practice of moving structure, presentation and behaviour out of a single HTML page and into separate files where they can be referenced from anywhere to make site wide changes.
Why does that matter I hear you ask? Well it matters because -
FASTER DEVELOPMENT TIMEFRAMES
Site development becomes more cost effective so you can enjoy a better return
BETTER SEARCH ENGINE PERFORMANCE
With less HTML to trawl, search engines such as Google will be able to index the site more accurately and this is a great advantage over a table based site
MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR OTHER BROWSER PLATFORMS (IPHONE ANYONE?)
With the advent of the Apple iPhone, people are taking mobile web seriously. This means new opportunities for new and existing clients
ACCESSIBLE TO PEOPLE WITH SIGHT DISABILITIES
All Government sites must adhere to accessibility guidelines and Web Standard structure give you a distinct advantage in winning this business
SITE MAINTENANCE BECOMES EASIER AND FASTER
With a stylesheet controlling the layout and typography of the site, site changes become much quicker without affecting the content or individual pages.
THE POINT?
I have demonstrated how Hambo Development uses Web Standard principles to speed up web development, increase accessibility, create a platform for Search Engine Optimisation and make future improvements and changes less expensive and quicker.
We would love to work with you on your next project where we can demonstrate all of the above to make your client's website modern, accessible and extensible.
